Hey all i am relatively new to the site but i wanted to be an active member and post. I have a debate for you all. The other night a few friends and I went to a party and we were on our way back. We took two cars: mine:2003 f-150 sport and my friends 2005 jeep wrangler sport. Well on the way back i pulled up next to my friend and he got on it like he wanted to race. I decided that it wasnt a smart idea so i didnt follow. When we got back this same friend said he would have owned me in a race. My debate for you all is who would actually pull in this race. I am only talking this specific situation though. My friend had 4 people in his jeep weighing at a total of about 800lbs, i had just me and another friend weighing a total of about 370lbs. Were were both going around 35 so this would be a rolling start. Both of these vehicles are stock and both are standard shift. Estimate specs for both vehicles are as followed:
Jeep: 190hp, 235ft/lbs tq, body weight:3558lbs
F-150: 202hp, 252ft/lbs tq, body weight 3990lbs
these are peak numbers at relatively similar rpm ranges.
I personally think it would be a very close race and might come down to who is a better driver. Course i would like to be biased and say my truck would win but i'd like to hear all your opinions. Haha oh yea and both drivers were not under the influence so alcohol doesnt count.
it would be neck and neck. The vehicle that was well taken care of and runs flawlesly(properly tuned up, and problem free ) would have the advantage. Driving skills play a little factor also. Also the rear gearing will be a plus to the one who has the better set up. I raced a stock 93 mustang identical to mine, only real difference was my timing was advanced and i had 3.73 rear gears in it. I beat him buy half a car lenght. ( Identical motors and trans and wheels) Only real way to find out is to tell him to bring it on.lol. make sure ya have a safe place to do so though.lol
I like Ultramagdan's idea. Drag him across a parking lot.
The gearing will make a big difference too. The jeep is geared lower then the F150's. He will get a jump from the start, but I would say about 45-50, the F150 would pull up and away.
About ?? years ago, (I won't say how long, but it was back in my wilder days), I had a 75 Mustang Cobra with a 302 Boss, Holley 650 carb, and the rest I can't remember, but it was all geared high performance, and I took on a guy with a bit newer Mustang with a 351 in it. He had an auto tranny and I had a manual. I told him I had a 351 too just to see if he would race and he did. I dusted him by about 4 lengths at about 1/4 mile. He was embarassed when he found out I only had a 302, but learned that gearing can make a difference.
Woot yall are making me go crazy over here! my truck is all torn to peices and im installing cams right now i cant wait to see after i do mods, the difference i'll see!
I'd say if you are rolling 35 and drop all the way to first, and carry it to 5 grand, you will be A-ok and in the lead. I dunno about the manual though. I know if I am running like 33 MPH and stomp the pedal down, the auto kicks all the way to 1st and pulls pretty hard. Gearing will play a huge difference. If he's got the rubicon pkg that gets him 4.10 gears. so be careful!!
I actually have a f150, and a jeep, which is a grand cherokee, and i can tell ay the cherokee pulls pretty good, would be a good race, but i say the ford would have won, and definatly try it out and tell us the result!
heh the next time i have the opportunity in a safe environment maybe i will. Though at a standing start ill have trouble with traction especially with those factory ameritrac tires.
