Installing Engine with Headers Attached
67 F-100 2WD, 390, Hooker Headers
Anybody ever install a 390 in a 67-72 with the headers attached. I always have a tough time getting them bolted on. Thanks.

I've tried it before and it didn't work. The easiest way I know of is to put the engine almost all the way in to where the motor mount studs are almost in the holes ...maybe 2 or 3 inches above and in front of the holes, then put one bolt in the front of the header and one in back but leave them loose to where you can wiggle the header around a little, then put the engine the rest of the way in and bolt up the headers. A 390 is a little difficult no matter what you do. The last one I did was a 460 and it was a night mare. Good luck,

I tried it in my 71' and the drivers side was no problem but the passenger side was not possible due to the bend on the #1 tube on the header hit the lower motor mount bracket and the firewall and the buldge for the starter and the crossmember for the tranny. What I ended up doing was to shove the header in first then I had to wire it out of the way, install the engine then bolt up the header. The passenger side had plentey of room to get at the bolts so it was really easy to get the bolts done.

When I dropped the 390 into my 4 wheeler, I just positioned the headers next to the frame and slid the motor in between them. Installing the starter was the most fun. Leave the header loose til you get it bolted on..
