And I believe it is a hardwired system that would require some involved rewiring to disable this valuable safety feature.
As is usual with Americans (look at our absolute failings in mass trasit) we are at the tail of the world when it comes to simple automotive safety compliance as most of the rest of the world already requires by law that your headlights operate at all times while vehicle is in motion.
Here in Norway was the daylight fixed by law for about 22 years ago. I think this is a very safe way to be seen on the road, when the sun is backlighted on meeting traffic. In rainy days, you will see the car with headlights first.
Keep on, and drive safety with your headlights on!
Same here in Canada, daytime running lights have been mandatory for about 20 years. Most cars though when you put on the parking brake the daytime running lights shut off. One reason I can think of to be able to shut them off is at a drive in movie theatre. If you are coming and going while the movie is playing you want to be able to do it without annoying everyone else with your headlights.
