I have a 2002 Ranger, auto, 4x4, 4.10 gears, extended cab pickup truck with 100k miles. I recently purhcased a car to commute to and from work in and generally be my daily driver, so I'd like to begin doing some more serious offroading with the ranger. Most of what I've done so far is mudding and a couple of easy trails which didn't even require 4x4. I'd still like to keep the ranger available for use as a daily driver and to use as a light work truck and light towing, along with 'moderate' off road use. Now to my questions:
1) I'd like a LS or Locker, but would like suggestions on which one, how much to spend, etc.
2) Should I change the tires, currently I have 245-75-16's on them. I was thinking about buying some 15 inch wheels, but I'm not sure what size tires would be appropriate. I guess I should stick with AT's.
3) What other mods, if any, would you guys recommend?
4) Anyone know of any good beginner trails in the Upstate of SC, or the GA, TN, or NC mountains?
My dad has a 2001 Ranger SC 4x4 check the sticker you should have LS already My dads ranger has it already. And i have seen 33's on Ranger's without lift's i think they may have cranked up the torsion bars.
I'd find an 8.8 out of an Explorer (should be available with 410's and LS) and swap it in first. Much stronger than the Ranger 8.8 and should be bolt up (might want to read some on this first though). Then I'd get on it!
