Hello, just bought a 'sploder and was wondering about towing it behind our old rv. Is it ok or will it wreck the tranny etc? All opinions greatly appreciated.
info from my 1993 Explorer owners manual and assumption is all 4 wheels on the ground:
All autos are limited to 35 MPH and 50 miles max with all the running gear hooked up.
Manuals with 4x2 placed in nuetral can go unlimited miles and as fast as you dare to pull it (you get the idea).
Manuals 4x4 in nuetral limited to 35 MPH and 50 miles with all the running gear hooked up. (Auto-electric shift transfer case)
Manuals with manual shift cases and manual lock front hubs (not sure if this was ever produced stock) max 55 MPH unlimited miles.
Any 4x4, and the 4x2 auto, remove the rear drive shaft and tow forever at 55 MPH tops in nuetral.
I think the real key is keeping that K/N filter oiled just right
just mark and remove the drive shaft when you pull it, or find a way so that you only have to disconnect it from the rear end and tie it up out of the way.
