I recently found this site and think its great I have loved ford pickups since I could tell them apart from the alsorans.
I just brought home my newest purchase a 1975 F-250 4x4 and was wondering if one of you guys would be kind enough to decipher the vin for me the # is F26YU44735 thanks for your help. Also since the motor in this truck smokes like a frieght train I was thinking about swaping the motor from my 1975 2x4 bought am unsure of wich motor is in it where do I look on the engine to find out I can't see any stickers or anything so am hoping there are some #'s on the block or somewhere else.
This part doesn't mean too much and you also missed a digit, there should be eleven characters not ten.
F26 _truck code for F250 4x4 > F25 would be a 2x4
Y = Engine 360
U = Plant = Louisville Ky
( )44735 + consecutive build number
What are the other numbers and letters ?

As far as swapping the engines is concerned, you need to make sure they are the same engine family. Dennis said your 4x4 came with a 360 FE, if it is still an FE it would have: valve cover covers part of the head and part of the intake, and the sparkplugs go \\//. Compare both engines, especially valve covers (shape and # of bolts), intake shape, sparkplug angle, and location of thermostat housing. If these things match, then they are both FE's, and it would work fine. Check it out and let us know what you find...
I'm sure they are both FE engines I am not sure what CI the engine in my 75 2x4 is the guy I bought it from said he had his guys swap it out and can't remember what it was and it does not run great and I am sure I will need some parts.
