awesome. that is exciting. i cant wait to hear more on it, that is pretty detailed right there. i read something about hybrid fuel, possibly gasoline injection?
Ford has limited availability on this engine and is not going to waste it in a old-tech Ranger -- the 4.0l is here to stay for the Ranger for quite some time I would guess. From what I have read on the web, they are putting this engine (the Duratec 3.5l) in the "CD3" sedans in late 2006 (2007 model), which includes the Ford Fusion, Lincoln Zephyr, and Mercury Milan. Inexplicably, "D3" cars made in Chicago -- Ford Five Hundred, Mercury Montego and Ford Freestyle are not slated to get them until the 2008 model year (available sometime in 2007).
Now it seems to me that the cars that need the extra punch and refinement the most would be the larger Ford Five Hundred type large sedans. This is very frustrating to those of us who are considering a purchase of a Freestyle or Five Hundred.
Hmm... New engine and new 6-speed auto tranny. Ooo-Ooo, deja-vu, it's the 6.0 and torqueshift combo all over again. I wonder what nightmares ford techs have to look forward to when these things start breaking...
I've read somewhere about the Fusion getting the 3.5L as a 2007 SVT package. I think that would be sweet. I test drove a Fusion on Saturday and am really impressed.
