I have an 89 aerostar shorty and was wondering how a LocRite would work on it? would like to increase my traction in winter and for pulling out the boat.
any oen have experience with Locrite in a 2 wd Aerostar?
a posi lock rear end really helps on a boat ramp or getting the rig to initially move on slick surfaces. lots of diffs out there in Rangers, Explorers and Aero junk yards, get a ring gear/pinion matched set carrier, matched at factory and same wear pattern, do not mix and match.
finding a LocRite brand ring-pinion carrier to fit a Ford Aero rear end may be a problem.
the AWD extended Aero with its almost perfect front/rear weight distribution is a real slick conditions pulling machine, will go places one should not be with a low ground clearance vehicle.
I agree with '96 either pull one from a Ford, or look for Torsen Rick (he posts here sometimes.), and put a Torsen in the rear, he would be able to help you find the right one for your rear end.
Vehicles with lockers are very hard to control on snow and ice. I would not recommend it unless you are a very good and very adventuresome driver. They are great for 4x4's or drag racing but not for winter driving. They will unlock (ratchet?) at times you would least expect it with possibly unfavorable results! IMHO but I have owned and driven lots of locked trucks.
