hood light

The hood light on my 77 F250 does not work. I put a new light bulb in and nothing. Is there a mercury switch and when is it powered? Where is it? Does it go on with the headlights, or is it constant power.

Thanks.

The light socket itself is the mecury switch and it should be 12 volt power from the Batt. (Constant power). Follow the wire down to the fire wall, there will be a single spade connector that it's hooked to or it will go over to the starter solinoid for power, depends on the style, they made both. Check to make sure you have power and a good ground to the socket. If so, replace the socket. -Ed

A mercury switch on the hood light is just like the furnace thermostat mercury switch in your house.
Once it "goes off of level position" it activates the power through it.
