? about hurst shifter

I was looking to find a hurst shifter for my 2004 Ford ranger 2.3L/140 5 speed.

i found this shifter... http://store.summitracing.com/defaul...8&autoview=sku

seems to fit everything like mine except mine. any help would be appreciated on if it would fit or where i might find one that does fit.

Your link doesn't work. The Hurst for the Ranger is Summit Racing part number: HUU-3915020

Go to www . summitracing . com and put that in on the keyword search. It's $199 and fits all the engines with the M5OD.

I dont' see any reason why it won't work in yours. It would be a M5OD-R1 in your truck, which is the same as the ones it says it wil fit. Don't hold it to me if it doesn't fit, though. According to Car-Part.com, a 2001(which Summit says will work) Transmission interchanges directly with a 2004.

We all have M5ODs (well the manual guys anyways) and they are all the same, mounted the same way and what not. The Hurst will fit.

Does the hurst improve the lousy shifting of the M5OD? Or just make for a shorter throw?

Well, I guess you could say it does. It makes it shorter throw, makes it cleaner and easier to get into gear. And I believe it takes away that rather annoying little problem of the stick not wanting to go into First sometimes.

My stock one works great for some reason. I have driven other rangers with the same shifter, and thiers sucked. I guess I just got a good one from the factory. The shift throw could be a little shorter, but I just grab the stick closer to the bottom. Mine is super smooth. Lightening quick, too. I just sometimes pull a little too hard on the **** and it comes off in my hand while the truck sits in neutral.
The hurst is supposed to shorten up the throws and keep you from overshifting into the next gear. It does look nice...
