Electric fans while towing question...
I've been reading a lot about the electric fan kits on here. I'm very familiar with the Flex-A-Lite brand fans as I run one on my drag truck. My question is has anyone tried them on a vehicle that they tow with. I know, for liability purposes, some manufacturers put exclusions in their ads. Like on my drag truck, Moroso states NOT to run their electric water pump drive on the street but I have for years without problems.
Back to the original question. I tow frequently with my V-10 ('99 DRW C/C 4.30's, FIPK, Hypertech tuner). Sometimes I gross 23-26,000#. It has NEVER made an attempt to warm up irregardless of how hard I work it, even loaded and on 5-6% grades. To my knowledge, I've never heard the fan clutch "lock-up" like you do quite frequently on a PSD under load. Obviously the cooling system is very efficient on these things. From the CFM ratings I've been noting in posts, it seems to me they should be more than adequate given the history of my operating temps. I would really like to gain the extra hp if I can do it without an overheating problem.
