what inputs does the computer use...

to sense a cold start and the idle speed? This is an 87 300-6. I figure it must be the temp sensor? Cause when the motor is cold, it takes its sweet time idling down fully. It drops to a 1000 pretty quik but the last few rpms take it a little longer. I figured it was juast an old ford. How fast should the idle drop to normal? And is the temp sensor the main input for the cold start and cold idle speed?

There are TWO temp sensors, one is a switch that tells teh computer when it's warmed up. The other is for the gauge. If it's not dropping to idle correctly I'd suspect the IAC, not a temp sensor.

Yes, the trucks have two temp sensors. My schematics only showed one for the engine, and one for the cluster but that's not the case apparently.

A little digging, and the one on the intake is the one that tells the computer the thermostat opened, and the one shoved deep into the water pump area is the one that actually measured the true temperature.

If you want to see how bad your mileage could be, disconnect the temp sensor on the middle of the intake and smell the gas fvapor lying out your tailpipe.
