hi i just got a rebuilt starter from advanced auto parts and i put it on my truck and all i hear is the starter just spinning and not catching the fly wheel.........so i took it off thouth i would try to like adjust it and also cleaned off everything and made sure all the wire on silanoid and everything had good clean connection and put it back on and same thing.....have any suggestions i was told to run a ground wire from the bolt that holds on the starter to a better ground such as neg. battery terminal or fram......but have not done it yet if it helps any i have a 79 ford f-150 with a 400
Is this the first starter you have put in the truck? or has this been an ongoing problem? How long was the old starter acting up before you replaced it? It is possible that the ring gear on your flywheel is chewed up. Auto zone is simply the old Western Auto, so are you sure the parts man gave you the correct starter? I assume yes if everything bolted up, but you never know.... FOMOGO
I had the exact same problem happen with my truck. I have a '78 F-150 with a 300-6 and I had a 73 F-700 i simply took parts from the F-700 and put them in my starter. All you need to replace is the little spring under the cover on the top of the starter and put a little Never-seez on the parts.
I would just take the starter back.... if you got it from advance it should have a life time warranty on it.... just tell them to give U another one.... ill bet that is the problem..
