Can anyone help me? I recently bought a 1974 F250 Highboy, and would like to see if anyone could tell me what the specifics are on it. My vin# is F26YRS89305, my transmission code is A, front axle is 7, and rear axle is B4. I found this info on the ID tag on drivers side door and on a Ford print out in the glove box. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

It decodes to an 1974 F250 4x4 pickup (regular cab) equipped with 360 2bbl, New Process 435 4 speed manual transmission.
Front Axle - 4.55 Dana 60
Rear Axle - 4.10 Limited Slip Dana 60
Hmm, the axle IDs are funny - different gear ratios. You sure you got the information correct?

I just checked the data plate again, and thats the way it reads. I will look underneath in the morning. How can identify what they are by looking at them? Also, the guy I bought it from said that there was something wrong with the engine when it came from the factory and it was replaced with a 390. This also has a 4bbl. How can I find out what engine I actually have? Thanks

To get data off the axles, bring a rag and a scrapper. On the differental cover, scrap off the middle left of the cover and you should see the codes.
On the 360/390, it's rather diffcult to tell. You'll have to measure the stroke (or was it bore?), or yank off the starter and check the engine code.

The front and read axles are usually a little different.
I have seen many with 4.10:1
matched with a 4.09:1
It is designed that way to give *a load* on the traction system.
