I have a '99 2.5L L4. I understand that the earlier 2.3L is basically the same block. Now my problem is, I want to put a camshaft in my 2.5L but I have not found one specifically for the 2.5L. I was wondering if parts from a 2.3L would work on my 2.5L. i.e. headers, camshaft, head. I'm willing to put money into it, but I just am up a creek. I want more power, but I want to maintain my mpg.
Another quick question....
I was wanting to put the front bumper off an EDGE onto my 99. Does anyone know if the bolt patterns are the same? I'm clueless on that.
Ford has offered a 2.5L stroker kit for the 2.3L since the '80's. I think that is basically what they used to get the 2.5L out of the 2.3L. Try calling a cam manufacturer, sometimes they can help a great deal. But you are right, I can't seem to find specific 2.5L cams. Remember that you can go slightly larger with the cam because you have additional displacement that will make the cam seem smaller than if it were in a 2.3L
I have heard that the heads are very restrictive, a local machine shop can probably do some mild clean up on the ports and stuff. Send them off to a speciality place and get the heck ported out of them, that will help. Your truck should already have a factory steel tube header, they work pretty well for stock to moderate engines. Ever thought about a Turbo Conversion?
I've thought of a turbo, but Idk how that would match up to my EFI. The head and the camshaft are definetly on my list. The Esslinger tech didn't know if the parts for the 2.3L and the 2.5L were interchangeable. He said they are from the same block, *blah*blah*blah* , everything I already know. I saw a sharp 99 Ranger with the hood from a 2001 Edge. That just looked darn good to me. Thanks Tiggie, I will have to call a camshaft company. I've read somewhere that putting headers on the 2.3L/2.5L is nearly pointless bc the stock manifolds flow very good and the difference would be barely noticeable.
One more question: Where the heck is the redline on the 2.5L? I know peak HP is at 5000, but I never take it up that high.
Parts from a 95-later 2.3L and 2.5L Lima engine are interchangeable.
The Duratec? Obviously not. The Pre-95 Lima? Slightly different internal dimensions as the Lima was redesigned for 1995. So, in that case, I'm not going there.
Yes, the factory Lima engine header is quite nice. Sounds real nice doing....well, above the speed limit, let's say.
Redline for a 2.5L is like 6250rpms. By 5000revs, that engine is already falling on its face, but that's why you do the work with the head then go from there.
about the bumper. you can always drill holes to match and just run a set of washers nuts and bolts and if you do it righ tno one will know you did anything at all
