Cool 02 Excursion problems starting/running

A co-worker of mine has an issue with his excursion and I thought I would try this knowledge base. First off the check engine light came on. While driving the engine would quit running and he would coast to the side of the road, wait 10 seconds and it would fire back up and he would not have a problem for awhile. So he took it in to a Ford dealership, and they said that it was fixed. 20 miles from the shop the check engine light comes back on. Now he gets home and it will not start the next morning. He calls ford and they tell him to remove his fuel cap and then try and start it, it starts. Lately he has not had time to take it back in and the shop has stated that they really don't know what is wrong. Does anyone have any ideas on this one?

Sounds like classic cps sensor symptoms to me. I would start there first. Nine times out of ten that is the culprit. Very common on the 7.3's

yes, Camshaft Position Sensor, or some call it CPS, or CMP. they have them on ebay, or go to your IH dealer, and get one for a T444E (thats the powerstroke), but do not get one from the dealer, they charge WAY too much.
