While troubleshooting a squeling serpentine...my 6 rib belt is only a 5 rib belt with the aft rib worn off. All of the pulleys are aligned with the exception of the crankshaft pulley which appears to be about one eight inch forward of all the rest. There are NO spacers between the pulley and the harmonic balancer. The engine was rebuilt by the previous owner. Is there any chance Ford makes crankshaft pulleys that the "reach" varies by only an eigth of an inch (or one quarter if spacers are used)? Is it possible a large washer could be between the crank and the harmonic balancer? Has anyone ever heard of this???? I took a shot at the search function and didn't see anything about this.
Why not take it off and see if there is anything behind it? Its held on by 4 small bolts. Breaking them loose is a little hard, but a piece of pipe on a torque wrench should work. I was able to loosen mine from underneath the truck.
Also, alot of smog pumps seem to curve in over time wich causes the pulley to be way out of alignment. It also makes the crankshaft pulley seem like its out foward too much. The bolts for the pump may be bent.
