I have a 'generic' maintenance schedule. It says its time to replace PCV. So I order one for the 93 f350 w/351w. Retailer has no problem finding one based on vehicle.
Then I go out to replace it, and all I see is a tube running from valve cover to air cleaner box. I replaced the breather filter in the air box, but just don't see where the PCV would be installed. Does the vehicle have one? If so, where would it be? My service manual makes vague references to it.
Thats hose is also a vent but not the one you're looking for. I have a 92 with I6 and asked the same question. It turned out that the PCV was on the back of the valve cover near the firewall. The hose to the cleaner box wouldn't be for your PCV because it doesn't have any vacuum on it. The PCV needs intake vacuum sucking on it so look for a similar hose who's other end is somehow plugged in to the vacuum system.
It should be at the rear of the passenger side valve cover, either in the valve cover itself, or in the hose between the valve cover and the intake manifold.
What alphabetsoup2006 said. On that year of 351w, it's a pretty tight squeeze back there, and with the height of the vehicle, it's hard to see. With the engine cool so you don't burn yourself, stick your hand between the pass. side valve cover and the upper intake plenum behind the plenum support. Move your hand toward the rear of the truck in there, and you'll hit the pcv valve and hose that goes to the back of the plenum. You'll have to bite your tongue just right and cuss a little to get it out.
Jroehl just said it. I did the same exact thing, wonderin where in the hell Ford hid this one. I finally found it. Thank God I have a body lift and had a little more room to stick my hand behind the engine or I woulda been screwed.
Actually, if you have a V8 and want to do something really cool, instead of aiming the PCV valve into cylinder number 8, you can plug that hole in the intake, and route it to the upper intake plenum or such. This way oil vapor doesn't go only into cylinder number 8, but is approximately divided among all the cylinders.
