Some say they are the same , some say they are slightly different.
They do have different ID numbers on them which usually means the part has been changed or designed for a specific year..

ME I like to keep everything per OEM specs.

You are always taking a chance on Ebay.

Does both the wiper and fluid control work with the 80's switches? Does it mount the same way? is the shaft longer in the 80's than the 78-79? will the ***** from a 78-79 fit a 80's switch?

There is a tech article about this swap using '78-79 parts - under the 'Articles/Specs' link at top of page. I installed a '86 delay switch into my '73 with no problems. It's externally the same as the '78-79 switch and will use the older ****. The difference is the wires for the washer.

When you remove your old switch you will notice the wiring plug to the back of the old switch is in two parts. The smaller two wire part is for the washer pump. To use a '80+ delay switch you will need to change these two wires around. I used a small pick and released the wire ends out of the plastic connector and swapped them. Other than this, it's a direct swap.

yup, what marty said. i just could not remember what wires i switched. i did this swap with the 88 switch in the 79, and an 86 switch in the 65 falcon, and both work great.
