I'm sure this subject has been beat to death, but here it goes again. I'm looking for real world fuel mileage numbers from people with similar (or exact) trucks. 02 F350 CC DRW 4x4 6 speed, stock tires, unknown axle ratio, no mods.
I'm trying to budget my money accordingly and I'm trying to find out how much to save for fuel. This truck will be driven on mostly 2 lane highways, with some city and interstate thrown in. I realize that I'm not going to get top numbers from the interstate, just looking for some close numbers. I appreciate the input.
I just got 16.9 MPG on my truck this past week. It is the best I have ever achieved. It is mostly highway keeping it under 60-65 when possible. I also pulled my bully dog chip a week ago and haven't been running the AC. Driving fast, AC on, with a chip I get more like 14.5.
I too have an '02 F350 DRW 6 Speed. 2WD though. I weigh 12,000 lbs with a service body and hoist. If I keep my speed down to 55 MPH and shift @ 2250 RPM I can squeeze 15 MPG out of it. If I do 70 MPH my mileage drops to 12.
You probably have a 4:10 rear-end which is standard for a DRW.. This hurts your fuel mileage abit... I have DRW with the auto trans and get 15 empty and 11 loaded...
I've got an 01 F250 Supercrew 6spd running 3.73's. If I stick it on cruise control at 65 on the highway and limit intown driving I can pretty consistently reach 19.5. Keep it under 2000 rpm's and it does pretty good, better than anything else I have sitting in the driveway!
Well, I appreciate all the replies. I was thinking I'd have to hope and pray to get above 16, but it sounds like with my driving style, I'll be looking more at 17 or higher, depending on how much lead I put in my foot each morning. If anyone else has some numbers for me, please post.
