4.6 knocking?

4.6 knocking?
I just recently noticed this in my '97 4x4 with the 4.6L/4R70W. It has a somewhat heavy knock in the engine at 3,000-3,500 RPM's and usually under a load (uphill or towing uphill). I was just wondering if this was because of bad gas? I put 87 in it. Should I try a tank of 89, or throw some octane booster in it to see if it changes anything?

I assume you mean "pinging" don't you? My 97 does it...so I run premium in mine with no problems. I looked at running 87 or 89 octane then adding a booster but the cost of the booster vs. the price difference a gallon between regular and permium was the same....meaning I would save no money buying regular and then adding an octane booster.
I didn't think they were tuned as well for the high octane fuel.
