Shift kit?

Shift kit?
Anyone here have a shift kit in a C6 auto tranny? Im gonna be ordering a 460 to replace the old 400 in my dads 78' F150 within the next few weeks, and Im wondering if these shift kits are worth the money? Im thinking a 460 might be enough motor to not even need one to have a little fun with an automatic.

I have a 2000 RPM stall and a shift kit in my C6 with a 460 in front of it. I would definitely get one. If you pull, it is nice because it holds the gears a little longer. It also makes the transmission run cooler because it eliminates some of the slippage in the clutches. I'd do definitely do it again.

Do you have a ballpark figure of how much one would be? Im a 15 year old kid and I have enough for the motor and headers and a few other things but Im not sure if Ill be able to afford it. I probly should be saving up for gas and insurance the way they are. Gas is getting better though, seen it for $2.09 the other day :-) .

I have a shift kit in a C-6 behind a 460. It also has a 2500 rpm stall. The shift kit works great, and was only about $100 extra. The shifts are positive, and under hard acceleration, it squeeks the tires between shifts. I had the whole tranny rebuilt, minus torque converter, for $600 with shift kit included.

That sounds pretty good then. The transmission was rebuilt 4 or 5 years ago so it should hold up pretty good. I thought they were more expensive than that, all my expectations for everything as far as price goes cost an arm an a leg . But that price sounds pretty good, thanks.
