Beds

I'm curious what the differences are between the 51-52 beds and the later 53-72 stepside beds? I know the sides are different on the 48-50 beds and tailgates offered vary on all the beds, but other then that I dunno. Any of the guru's here know?

I believe the laer beds did away with the script and went ot block letter Fords. Other than that, I really do not know.

I've been told (can't confirm) that the later bed and fenders can be used on a '51-52 as long as you use all the late model parts. The differences look pretty minor from the casual glances I've taken, mostly related to the smaller dimensions front-to-rear of the later fenders. Doesn't seem like the '53 - on rear fenders would look good with the rest of a '52. Running boards would seem to be another issue.

I was told that the newer beds were taller and wider. Not sure have not checked.I was also told you can use a 51 or 52 bed on a 48 to 50.Was told the only differences is the bedside and mounting holes. Not sure about that.

The fenders on the 48-50's have the notch for the raised panels. They will bolt up to the 51/52 beds but there will be a gap at the notch. I've seen one done this way.
