Afternoon Guys,
First, I must say that there are alot of unselfish people here and I have enjoyed and learned some tricks from this site that have made a difference in my truck, so thanks for the ideas.
My question is,
When the a/c is on and hauling a 8k lb toyhauler, my cooling fan cycles on and off constantly until I turn off the a/c and then the fan shuts off.
The truck isn't overheating at all.
On some trips running without the a/c at all,the fan will kick on when the truck needs it. It seems to cycle normally.
Is this a sensor that controls this or the fan clutch itself?
I was reading in one of my trade journals a few years ago that Ford was coming out with an electrically controlled radiator fan. That idea may have been shelved. But if you do have one of those beasts, that would explain why it comes on so quick. I wouldn't worry about it too much, it sounds like it's doing it's job.
Souinds like the serpentine belt may be slipping, but only when the AC is on. Ford has a kit which includes a new belt, tensioner, and pulley which solves the problem. Did mine under warranty on my 02.

The part number for the kit is 2C3Z-8620-AA. It includes a new serpetine belt, water pump pulley and belt tensioner. My trucks clutch fan would kick in and out while pulling my fifth wheel in the mountains. This was installed under warranty and fixed my problem.
