Here's an Update Folks, salesman called me back and said he had spoken to the original owner, owner said truck had failed inspection due to axle seals leaking grease on to brake drum. Another dealer did the repair and replaced/changed the fluid when they replaced the seals.Should axle seals be shot at 100k miles ? Never seen too much talk about them on this board, I'll do a search. Ok so it sounds believable to me, still not happy he lied about the 5th wheel. As some suggested I'm trying to get some kinda' warranty from them on the drivetrain but I don't think they'll go for it.I'll talk to them again in the morning and ask them to put me in touch with the owner, see if that flys. If not I think I'll steer clear and start huntin' for another truck. If the price of diesel stays up where it has been maybe I'll see more trade in's.Thanks for all the input guys, more later...
Wow. You're actually still considering doing business with these people? No wonder why people lie all the time now. People just don't seem to care much... If he lied to you about the fifth wheel, what else will he or is he lieing about? I drove 400 miles each way to work with Jeff at Van Bortel because my local dealer couldn't be trusted. I would do it again in a heart beat. His whole facility is a stand up operation. Besides that, you can't beat his prices.
Seems too me the date and mileage on rear is a sign that it came from a junk yard. Does mileage match truck? Most junkyards date an put miles of donor on used part, not saying anything wrong with that rear, just someone needs to fess up. Warranty in solid writing may influence deal.
