hey, i have an 1986 raner with a 2.3L with 150k on it. when it just gets warmed up and is under load in 4th gear and the gas pedal is depressed enought to keep constant speed the engine starts to miss every 4 or 5 seconds causeing the vehicle to shudder. this happens for about 2 minutes then goes away. also if i give it gas past half throttle it won't miss. but if i let off it it'll start to miss and shudder. the whole ignition is new within 10k. what do you think it could be, i'm stumped
Possibly the EGR is being applied earlier than it is suppposed to be. It is held off until the engine is warm, and if applied too soon, can cause miss under load. Spark plug wires that are marginal, or large plug gap can cause the same thing. I know from experience.

If you want more input on your problem, you will have to describe the symptoms a little more exactly. Misses are caused by several things: 1)bad mechanical components-valves,rings, etc 2) bad electrical (spark) or 3) bad fuel delivery - injectors or carb. Additionally, you can cause a 'trailer hitch' with a condition noticed under cruise, where marginal spark and minimum fuel mixture lean to a miss under load that comes and goes. If you add too much EGR (exhaust gas recirc) as noted, that can mimic the same symptoms as marginal plug wires. Did you check the gap on your plugs? Even if new, they are not guaranteed to be gapped properly from the factory.
Give us some more to work with, and you'll get deluged with 'information'.

Do a compression test on the engine. I'm leaning to the bad valves or rings. My uncle's '86 with the 2.3 experienced the same issue. Two cylinders were had 0 compression.
