I would like to put power brakes on my 75 F100. to replace the manual brakes. I dont know if I would just have to remove the old master cylinder and ad a power booster and master cylinder without haveing to change anything else. would like to know before I purchase it. Hopefully there is no manufacturing anythin to make it work. all help is welcome. or even place to buy the upgrade. Orielly's said they have one for me for about $85.00. is this a good price??
My '73 F100 2wd came with manual brakes and I swapped in power brakes several years ago. I complared part numbers and the manual and power master cylinder are the same, so I just reused my master and swapped in a booster, and the rest of the system (calipers, hoses, lines) does not need to be changed.
I got a used booster off a '78 F150 2wd and bolted it onto my '73. There is a bracket that bolts between the booster and the firewall which has a pivot for the linkages, you will need one from a parts truck. $85 is a good price for the booster (usually they want an old one for a core...) I paid $110 at NAPA for my last one.
Adding power brakes makes a big improvement in driving comfort, it's definately worth the cost. You will notice the pedal is quite a bit lower with the power setup, it should be close to the height of the gas pedal.
