Hello everyone. I have been lurking on the board for quite a while now, but I wanted to share the pictues of the new engine mounts we built for the 55. The engine is a 351W. I wasn't too impressed with any of the commercial mounts I found, plus with power rack and pinion they looked like they would make it harder to get to the power steering lines. We made these out of 1 1/2" .240" wall DOM tubing and 5/8" .120" wall DOM.
Dave, welcome to the forum! From what I see you've done a great job on getting the mounts set up. If you get a chance, set up your gallery here on FTE to make it easy to share photos and include them in posts.
Thanks guys. Glad to hear I am not the only one who likes they way they turned out.
I borrowed a tubing bender from a buddy to bend them. It isn't hyduralic, but with a big enough cheater bar it wasn't too hard, even with 1 1/2" .240 wall DOM. The most import thing to remember though is to leave more tubing on either side of the bend than you need. You can always cut and grind it down, but with the price of DOM these days you definately don't want to waste a foot of good tubing if you don't have too. Now that this project is done it is time to start in on the triangulated 4-link rear suspension!
that design it away too slick, I would bet that it was great fun to position all of that andd hold it in place to get the first weld. Good job, a worthy addition to the darkside
