ALginment/installation
Changing motors in our '66 F100. Replacing the tired '76 302 witha freshened '90 302. Tranny is a C4. Got the right flexplate and all.INstalled the torque convertor on the flexplate. Lowered the engine in and got every thing lined up Slid it back in and got it algined to where I got 4 slightly longer than std bolts thru the bellhousing into the block to be sure it was all algined. Turning the crank pulley, got it to slide in to where in seems to catch. It will slide in until there is about a 1 inch gap all around the case/bellhousing.
That's where it stops. try wiggling the crank around and all, but can't get it to go in any further. ????????
It's been many many years since I've done this. What am I missing? WOuld I be better off slipping the convertor onto the tranny shaft and then trying to algin the convertor/flexplate and bolt it together that way???
The convertor must be installed in the transmission and attached to the engine as a unit.
You will cause great damage to the pump and convertor if they are installed separately.
pull the convertor into the drive plate and bolt it fast.
