Hello, My 71 camper special has some sort of weird cantilever arm on the rear of the leaf spring? Is this due to the camper special, or something for this year? Do all f250's have this? I'd like to get some springs without it. There is a pic in my gallery marked "wrecker project". thanks
Check your e-mail.
That is indeed a cantilevered system, designed to give greater carrying capacity without increasing the number of springs.
It also was supposed to reduce the amount of sag as compared to an equally rated set of springs by reducing the flex - or so I was told many years ago.
It's not that I really want to get rid of it. I was putting a One Ton dana 70 in it and figured I'd bring the bigger springs with the rear. I ended up with the rear going back a few inches as the one ton springs have the location pin/bolt set back a few more inches. So now I have to use the stock springs to get the location right. With this being a wrecker project I wanted the heavier springs. I didn't know if all f250's had this?
