Does anyone have a better way of attaching the door panels to the door other than the wire clips that came original on my '76. Several of the mounts where the clip fits on the panel are broken and I was thinking of useing a newer style plastic insert.
The doors on my 74 were taken off about 10 years ago and since that time they have had the plastic ones. Heh, they actually were replaced with the Chrysler version (white and the head looks like a large spiral). Last weekend I replaced the stereo system and used the Ford type plastic fasteners. They work like a charm. I would only suggest using a little bit of foam backing tape inbetween the sheetmetal and plastic to keep down some of the rattling/vibrations.
On my stock door panels I finally resorted to using 1" sheet metal screw, about four spaced along each side. I then dabbed green paint on the heads to blend with the panel.
I eventually replaced the panels with units from Cover craft. The are not exact but look really good. The have a plastic button that goes throught the panel into the original holes in the door.
Again those panels are not for a full on restoration but I think they are really good.
