My dad bought a 1995 F-250 HD 4x4 a few months ago. He is going to be using it for snowplowing. My question deals with transfer case function.
It goes from 2HI to 4 Hi no problem. To put it in neutral than to 4 LOW is the problem. The truck's transmission is in neutral and foot is on the brake when doing this but the transfer case does not go into neutral or 4 LOW.
Now, this transfer case is the one where you have to push down then pull back to go to neutral or 4 low. I think that is where the problem is. Is the shaft supposed to slide down or does the whole linkage move down? If the shaft is supposed to slide down then I think that is the problem.
I have sprayed it with lube to try to loosen it up. There are two covers (one on top and one on the bottom) of the linkage to maybe keep out dirt and stuff. The bottom one is ripped and has sand in it.
Basically I need to know if the shaft is supposed to slide up and down or if the whole linkage is. If the shaft is supposed to slide up and down can I take it off, take it apart and clean it up and put it back together?
No, I didn't find anything out Morris. I was thinking about it the other day seeing as how snow plowing season is coming up. It still goes into 4 HI but not 4 LOW. Kind of sucks....
