01 taurus keeps blowing fuses when using headlights
my 01 taurus keeps blowing a fuse for the instrument cluster lights,(ashtray lights, parking lights etc).I've found that by unhooking the dimmer switch from the headlight switch that the parking lights work ok but when the switch is reconnected it blows the fuse.I thought it may be the headlight switch and have put in 2 more new ones ,same trouble.Any help would be most welcome. Please help me before a robber shop gets my money.
Ok, you have narrowed it down to the panel lighting, since that is the only thing that runs through the dimmer switch. Do you have an aftermarket radio? If you do, this is the most likely cause, either by a wire being hooked up wrong, or a poor wiring job has come undone, or has been pinched.
I know it's a pain, but you could also unplug the cluster, and see if it blows the fuse. If it still does, you know it's not the cluster, and will be the radio wire like I mentioned above, or one of the little lights that light up the lettering in various places across the dash.
I took out the instrument cluster and the intergrated control panel and the fuse still blew even though no dash lights were left in the car.I guess the dome light was still connected but thats the only thing left .anyway, any other ideas would be appreciated.
