4R70W Weird Shifting
When driving up hill, around 30 miles per hour, acts like the truck shifts down into overdrive or something. RPMs drop way down, sounds like the engine is barely running. Pushing more on the go pedal doesn't help until you're just about to floor it. Then the engine speeds up and finally the transmission wakes up and slams you into another gear. After that, its really doggy and doesn't wanna go anymore. You usually have to shift it to second yourself, and I'm pretty sure last week when I drove it (its my dad's truck), it felt like it just slipped rather than grabbed.
When driving on flat ground, it acts kinda doggy and really hesitates to shift at all. It also constantly searches when you're going down the highway at around 60. On a good day the thing gets 14 or 15 miles to the gallon on the highway, not that it helps, but I figured I'd note it.
We put a transmission kit in this thing a few months ago, and it made the shifts better, but still this thing acts just terrible. We've run all the code tests we can with our $35 code scanner from Wal-Mart and it just says everything's good.
So our question is...what's the deal? Thing always has run doggy, but never this bad. Is it because the rear end's geared at a 3.08 and that's way too high? Or is there a chip we can put in the computer to make it run better? Or are we just headed to rebuild city?
Thanks for any advice you can give us.
Thanks for your time.
