I'm gathering the parts to do the disk brake conversion on my 64 am also going to upgrade my master cylinder to a duel.I read in the tech section that a master cylinder from a 68-70 mustang will bolt up.Here is my question, should I get the disk/drum M/C or the drum/drum M/C and if I get the disk/drum do I need a proportioning valve?
You MUST use the correct master cylinder for the brakes you will be using. Disc requires a disc manster, drums one for a drum system. Mix/match of the bore sizes will cause you endless headaches and possibly brakes that will not work at all.
a little pricy but they have everthing in one kit for you 64 f100 http://www.mpbrakes.com/3770fordtruckdisc.htm there's another site out there with the same kits as these guys but not as hard on the pocket sorry i can't remember what it is but ill try and do a search for it. hope this helps
I bought the basic kit from CPP looks the same as most other kits.I read the article in the tech section by Skip Porter on how to up grade the brakes on 64 and earlier trucks. He said he used a master cylinder from a 68-70 mustang in his disk brake conversion. He didn't say if it was a disk/drum or drum/drum master cylinder.
ricku, look under brakes "Brake tech for early model Ford F-100 thru 1964" I'm almost done with mine,I have a few more things to finish before it's on the road again.
