You can not run all the current for the glow plugs through a momentary switch.
All you use the momentary switch for is to trigger the relay.
I do not know exact figures on the total draw, but I will guess it to be about 80 amps.
Did you run the wires right? Go to www.members.shaw.ca/k2pilot/
There is a bypass diagram there. My switch never gets hot. It only completes the ground.
Momentary switch goes from an accessory block on the fuse buss under the dash to the solenoid on the passenger side fender well for the GPs. I am using a 20 amp switch (should be enough, shouldnt it???)

The solenoid should have:
A purple wire that triggers the solenoid.
A red wire that feeds battery power.
Two orange wires that go to the glow plugs.
A black wire that grounds the trigger circuit.
Did you hook the push button to the terminal that had the purple wire on it?
That is the correct place, your switch should not get hot.
If you put it on with the orange wires it will melt the switch and wire and could cause a fire.
trike1946 your glow plugs are different than smiller4597 has.
1986 and older were the old style system
1987 and newer were the new style system
Dave, I thought they might be different. I don't know much about the older ones. That's why I was trying to get him to Ziggster's. I think his is an 86. Anyway I'm sure you can keep him straight.
