Let's here your stories! How fast have you had your current (or any) vehicle up to? I know there's lots of talk about guys flying at mach 1 in their cars, but let's hear your real honest stories.
My 77 F-150 with that 425 hp 460 rolls the factory marked 100mph speedometer back around to zero no problem. The tach walked up to 5300 rpm. It had 3.25:1 gears in the rear with 275 60r15 tires on the back. A quick calculation brings the number to about 125mph. After letting of the gas, it bounced at zero for a bit then started backing off. All I know is it was very fast and if I screwed up it would probably would of killed me. This truck now has been swapped out for a set of 3.55 gears and a mini-spool.
Most new vehicles govern out around 160 kph, like my 1997. Not quite quick enough to out run the fuzz!
We had an old 78 Grand Marquis boat that had a 460 in it, and I know it could do 100mph according to the speedo, but not much more. When I was 16 it was a lot of fun to run the bag off that car around town!
Good topic! The fastest vehicle that I have had was my 88 Cobra 5.0. Don`t know how fast it would go but it would get upto 150 kph pretty fast. Don`t think that I would want to wind it out with the 2.73 gearing.
The fastest I ever went was in my dad's 74 Plymouth Fury Station wagon. I had the needle at 120. It had a 440 under the hood and that thing was fast. I could keep up to most of the fast cars at school.
One thing I learned at school is that a knotical mile is 6000 ft.
The fastest vehical I have ever owned was a 1998 Honda VTR 1000 sport bike. Never found out how fast it would really go, but it would break every speed limit in the province in second gear. The next fastest would be the snowmobile my dad used to have. Had it moving at around 170kph (according to the speedometer ) on the river nere my parents old farm. My very first car was a 1987 Thunderbird turbo coupe, it could move pretty good too.
My very first truck was a 74 F100 with a 240 6 banger in it (wooden flatbed and all, a real prize). I used to get that sucker wound out to about 95MPH going down a "big" hill back home. Standard steering, standard brakes and a whole lot of shaking going on. My brother and I kill ourselves laughing about how stupid we were. Anyhow I can appreciate how fast 125MPH is and I have no intentions of taking my current 74 up there. I have had it at the 100 mark with pedal left over but that's it. I prefer the torque from 0-60 when she hooks up and drives my butt into the seat.
BTW that Cobra with 2.73 gears Fomoko is talking about would get to the 125 mark real easy. My mustang has been there. They are scary little suckers if its raining out but otherwise lots of fun.
my ranger has gotten to about 200 but i was starting to run out of RPM and the truck was scary as hell... note to self rangers arent meant to go that fast
I had a 87 mustang with 2 73's and i figured it out that I had it upto about 150 mph, then front end started to kind of sway so I slowed down after that, and that was pretty muched maxxed out.
