Cps Tsb

Found this TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) info on the CPS (camshaft position sensor) on another forum site (tds, for those that are familiar with it). I know I had symptom #4 and replaced the CPS to correct it at 40K. It looks like I might have just been able to install a shim. Oh well, live and learn. I know I have read of other PSD owners having some of the other symptoms. Maybe it will save someone else the expense of a CPS. I haven't checked the price of the shim. I'm sure it's a dealer only part, but it has to be less expenseive than a CPS. It was listed as TSB 97-06-18, on that site, but 19970618 on this site under the 1997 F350 TSBs. If someone knows how to find this TSB on this forum with all this info, please let me know. I found the TSB, but it only gave some general problem info, and not this detail. Here's the info:

<TABLE border=0><TBODY><TR style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: arial"><TD style="FONT-WEIGHT: bold; FONT-SIZE: 11pt" vAlign=top width=230>LIGHT TRUCK:</TD><TD vAlign=top>1994-97 F SUPER DUTY, F-250, F-350
1995-97 E-350</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

This TSB is being republished in its entirety to update the model years and include the latest level part. ISSUE:

The 7.3L Direct Injection Turbo (DIT) engines are built with 0.1016-0.8128mm (0.0040-0.032") clearance between the Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor and the trigger wheel. At approximately 1.016mm (0.040") clearance, the sensor will fail to synchronize and result in a no run condition. Improper CMP clearance can be seen in the following five (5) symptoms:
  • [*]

ACTION:

Install a shim between the CMP sensor and the front engine cover. The shim will allow the correct clearance which should reduce the possibility of concerns. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

What an awesome find! Thanks for posting this, I'm betting that the shim becomes a very popular item in here.
