Service Manual Advice

What is the group's favorite service manual?

There is always a factory manual for those who make their living working on our trucks or are willing to overhaul their own beasts.

There those of us who change filters, check hoses, and, in extremis, might add a guage or change our own plugs.

Your thoughts on the second category would be appreciated.

I have a hanes myself. It is vary vague to say the least. Don't like it at all. I have been looking for a service manual myself. the most informative one I have found was the ford factory service manual, for a mere 300 bucks it can be yours! HA

Thanks Rob,

I've used Hanes & Chilton's in the past with variable results on other vehicles. I would prefer to stay in the 25 buck class. I have not seen side by side manuals to compare since I got the F250. Fortunately, its visits to the mechanics have been for state inspections.

Check Ebay. I was on there last night and found a guy that sells the "exact" Ford manual on computer CD. He claims that some of the others sold on Ebay aren't as complete as his. You find what your looking for and can print it if you need to. It was only around $25 or $30 bucks.

I got one of the Ebay service manuals, and it's got everything in it... sometimes trying to find certain things is pretty hard, but it's in there.

I bought it maybe 3 years ago though, be careful with what you buy w/ebay.

I've got the Haynes manual and a Ford dealer sourced DVD off E-Bay. If it's anything electrical the Ford manual is the way to go. The Haynes book has maybe 50% of the actual wiring diagrams and those only go up through 2002.

For general service the Haynes book has pictures, the DVD has very few. Haven't got a Chilton's yet but it's on the list.

Thanks again for the info. I need to stay commercial since the letters "APO" tend to discourage mailing to me. >50% of vendors computer software doesn't allow for APO as an address. I've also renewed two professional licences last month in states that don't believe in APO addresses.
