Hey all. I recently found (free) an 1986 Ford F-150 Lariat on some property I bought. It's got a 5.0 with AOD. It's been sitting since 1996. Rats lived in the engine bay and some of the wires were all chewed up. I replaced the plug wires plugs. I put a new fuel regulator on (after crankcase filled up with gas, per advice of this forum) There were some injector wires that were eaten through also. I soldered some and wire-nutted others. It runs on, what sounds like 7 cylinders. Maybe 6? Anyhow, I checked the firing order and the plugs. I have it drinking gas out of a coffee can right now because I don't know the condition of the tanks. It drinks it out of the can really really fast. Maybe I have a injector stuck open? How important are the injector wires that I soldered and wire nutted up? I mean, they are making contact. What might cause gas to go down SO fast? I am going to get a stethescope tomorrow and check each injector. What's a new or refurb. set of injectors cost for this truck? Thanks all! Great forum you guys have!

Today I took off the upper air intake plenum and the injector rails and injectors. Not too bad a job after working on a Cadillac! I checked all the injectors. I put 9v to each one to make sure it was clicking and the pintle was coming out. I poured a little gas in each one, put compressed air to one end and got a nice spray pattern out of each one. I put it all back, ran some fuel injector cleaner through it, and it still misfires on 2 cyl. I pulled the plugs off the dist. They were all getting fire, but found the #4 and #8 cylinders (the back 2) don't affect engine performance when the wires are pulled. Doesn't sound coincidential. Maybe somebody knows what to do? I would appreciate any direction. Thanks.

Check for vacuum leaks first. After you pulled the upper plenum, did you replace the gasket with a new one? If not you could have a vacuum leak where the plenum meets the intake. Also, take a close look at your PCV hose. That plugs in at the rear of the upper plenum and, if leaking, would affect the rear cylinders to a greater degree than the other cylinders.
I bought injectors for my 86 302 from Five-O Motor Sport. They are in CA I believe. 19# stage2 injectors cost me $240 plus shipping. I'm very happy with the injectors and the service. www.fiveomotorsport.com
Have fun! I have an 86 that I've been working on since April and it's turning into a pretty good truck!
