2001 Ford Explorer Sports Trac 2wd 80,000 miles
This is driving me crazy. I open door no intieror lights. Then I shut the door. Insert key. I then get a sick sounding chime. Crank, door ajar light flickers, Dome Light flickers, Chime is steady. Dome light will stop flickering until brakes are pressed. Chime and Clicking under dash. When brakes are pressed and released. Driver door unlocks and relocks.
I have tried contact cleaner. Dealer sprayed liquid wrench. This did not do anything.
Please advise asap. Have a two and half hour drive ahead.
Sounds more like a wiring problem under the dash. I have not looked under a 2001, but on mine - the relay and wiring for the chime and interior lights are right above the brake pedal behind the panel. You might want to take a flashlight and look under there to see if you can see a short or some wire that might be around the brake pedal. Sounds like something might be around the brake pedal arm and is grounding out to something else.
Thanks for the help. While waiting I pulled every fuse in dash and under the hood. While under the hood the fuse in the front left of the main fuse box when I pulled the check engine light and the door ajar light went out. Everything id working just find. Be the way, this started Nov 1, 2005. MAybe a ghost of some sort was missing with my Sport Trac left me a trick ilo treat. Anyway thanks fro the help. Have and 2001 Expy that has hasitation around 45 - 70 mph. Going to check COP, change plugs and wire has about 80,000 also.
