I've always liked working on trucks and cars.Today it just got alot more than just working on my truck.I'VE got 5 kids 2 boys 20 and 22 .3 girls 24 ,16, and 14.I've always tryed to get them involed in working on the old autos with me.But they did not care for that stuff they said.At last my 14 year old just can't wait untill we work on my old truck.this is the same girl that takes 2 hours to get ready for school. We was having trouble talking.Teens don't like talking to us old folk as we are not as cool as there friends and we don't understand what they are going through. So they think. This has helped us alot.she still don't talk to me about everything but Dad just got alittle cooler in my daughters eyes and we just got alittle closer .I can't wait to work on my (OUR TRUCK ).So no matter what I do to the truck when I show it I can say my DAUGHTER and I built it.NOW THATS COOL. Sorry about the long post but to me this is what it is all about.

THAT IS COOL!!! Good to hear you and your daughter are sharing some very valuable time together and creating great memories for later on. Trucks are cool and having your daughter share that with is is even better. Hope this is the begining of many years of sharing the cool times working on your truck.
Good goin' Art. IMHO I wouldn't, though, feel dis'ed by your other kids. They might as years go by come back to share your interests. My son, now 32, helped me on my sports cars as a youngster, then went his own way. Today he and I spend more time on the phone talking cars, trucks, and home building than the time he spends talking to his mother. Take care. Stu

There were three things that my Dad and I could agree on, Hunting, Fishing, and Old Cars.
I'm 57, my dad passed in 1982, We still work on my old Panel togeather, and He still hassels me when I reach for the wrong tool.
You are building a Life Time Bond that will be with the both of you for ever.
way to go Art, I thought that with 4 boys and a girl I'D have some company/help in the shop but it's always too cold or too stinky or whatever. My 19 year old son just joined the army (he leaves Nov 14) and thinks he might like to build a 67 Shelby clone. You can bet that I'll be looking for a foundation car real soon.
That is awesome! To have your kid want to get involved in old vehicles with you, its a great way to stay close. I have a 7 year old boy, I keep trying to involve him, but he is not much interested yet. My thought is to NOT push him too much, I just make sure he sees me working on one of the old vehicles, and see me enjoying it!
I work with teenagers all day (high school) So many have difficult relationships with thir parents, I have seen trucks and cars being a successfull link between parents and kids, your situation is great!
That’s cool! I enjoy working out in the shop with my dad, even though sometimes it may look like American Chopper with all of the disagreements, but it is still fun. I enjoy hanging out with you "old folk". The majority of my friends are in there 40s or 50s, few in there 60s, and I'm 18. I can learn so much more from the "old folks" and actually carry a conversation on about cars and trucks. Again that's cool to hear.
What a fantastic post, made me smile! My 15 year old is only slightly interested in old cars. I recently aquired a 66 Chevy truck for him to learn to drive on and that has helped his interests. Last year I brought home a 59 Dodge truck and my 11 year old son has claimed that ugly old truck as his.
Glad to hear that you and your daughter are havinga ball with it!!
I have two sons – Ramsay aged 20 . Finished 1st yr of two yr welding course. Taking time off to pay down his college debt. Not a car guy but looks forward to doing welding on the truck to keep in practice. While I’m a passable amateur welder, I appreciate all the welding he does as he has half his tickets and knows what he’s doing. (and he's teaching me better welding)
Rory, aged 19 – car guy. Bought his first car this past June – 87 El Camino. Between him, our neighbour and myself, we’ve fixed the floors, replaced the carpet, upholstered the seat, replaced the rad and all the hoses, the headliner, the seatbelts, herculined the bed, built fancy-schmancy speaker boxes…..Kid has helped a bit on Euphemia for the past couple of years but now that he’s got his own “American iron”, he realizes how much more the old man knows about something than he does. (On the Labour Day weekend the three of us blitzed it for 4 straight days. Not only was he in there the whole time, but he bought each of us a case of our favourite beer to show his appreciation)
