ok want to get a good daily driver truck that will be so so on gas because ill be driving it to school every day but on the weekend will mudding. i might go with 33's maybe 35's. im kind of limited on money. so what kind of truck would you suggest. im leaning to a ford or chevy. NOT DODGE!!! maybe a 73-87 chevy. or maybe a 1992-1996 f150 becuase i like those front ends better. what do you guys thinks? what would u suggest??? thanks
Well forget anything about gas. This is a ford site so your prob gonna hear ford, ford, ford but while the 92-96 f-150's are cheap now look into some other stuff like lifts. the straight axles in the chev's are cheaper to lift and if you want to do the ford up right expect another 200 at least for front end parts which really should be replaced when you lift it. And how many chevys do you see kickin around in junkyards if you need parts? Its cheaper to steal them but whoever you steal them from won't care because they've got 4 more. Just kidding but parts are so many its scary. Its all about if you want a newer truck with modern convinences or not I guess.
If you want to go off road, get a standard cab, short bed truck. This gives you the shortest wheelbase and the smallest turning radius. Important off road.
I like the earlier Ford 4x4 with the solid front axel. And don't pay extra for a cherry if you are going off road. It hurts a lot less to crunch up sheet metal on a beater than a beauty.

And, Frdbuy is absolutely correct about the milage thing. An off-road capable truck, (you mention 35" tires,) needs really low gears and high torque engine. So unless you use a diesel and burn resturant waste oil, you are going to be spending a lot on gas.
I say get an old chevy blazer, tons of parts, lots of power, easy to jack up in the air, and cheap cheap cheap! Only bad thing is they do get like 4 miles to the gallon!
The only full sized truck I ever had that got good gas milage was a 2x4, 63 chevy with six cylinder. I think it was 250 cu. in. Not much of an off roader.
If you want to go off road and have some kind of milage, you probably need a Nissan or a Toyota. A six cyl CJ isn't much better than a full size pickup.
i dont want a blazer because they rust real easy where i live. i have a toyota actually. but i decided to buy my friends truck. its a 1984 2500 with a 350 and 4 speed. 6 inch suspension, 3 inch body. it has 39.5x13.50 iroks.
