Yes, I have read through the archives, just wondering if there is any new from someone that has done it. I will be switching to this and the housing, giving a good flush and probably going to the Rotella ELC. Anyone have any pointers?
Sounds like you have it covered. Good clean flanges, a thin coating of silicone grease on the o-ring and it should seal up. The silicone grease that I use is the same that is for lubing water faucet gate valves. It looks like vaseline on steroids. VERY thick and slimy. You don't need much. Just enough to make it look wet. Any more and the hydraulic pressures generated when you tighten it down will cut the o-ring.
I gotta tell ya, Kwik, I love my 5" inch exhaust - but yours sounds so much better playing through a 6-speed!!
My 4-speed auto just doesn't do it justice. Weirdly, the truck sounds great from outside, great with the driver's window down, and nice and quiet with both windows up.
But if the passenger window is down, the exhaust flutter echos off cars, curbs, walls, etc. At first, I found it annoying. Then I heard it from outside, and the flutter is a lesser part of the exhaust sound. It seems strange that the flutter is what reflects back through the passenger window.
Anyway, great recordings!!! Now, if I could only afford to switch mine to a 6-speed...
Thank you arninetyes.
I wish that I could get the sound to pick up the thump thump thump that the luggits make.
My experience mirrors what you are saying about the sounds and the flutter.
NoAZ68 did you get your thermostat installed? I just fixed my coolant leak and completly flushed out the system. Filled it with the Shell Rotella ELC. Looking forward to not having to be concerned with SCA additives anymore.
I now have a useless bottle of test strips. Hehehe.
No, I haven't yet. I will be ordering tomorrow. I am trying to find the est place to find the Rotella since I live in a small town. I am not sure if NAPA carries it or not... Thank you for the replies...

That's why I went with the Zerex GL-05 from my NAPA store.
Oh yeah, thanks steve, i forgot about that. And i also got a new belt while there and have the old one as a spare. Some people use a hose clamp to keep the hose there, i just used a black ty-rap to keep it from rubbing the housing.
AARRGGHH!!! I forgot about that on mine and I just flushed it out yesterday!
Silly boy.....
So, Kwik...
I just read two threads, one said that the Rotella you added needed SLCs and the other said it doesn't. What did you finally come up with, going to throw away those extra test strips?
Fords4me, you can cut a piece of rubber and slip it over the hose where it rubs the alternator bracket, cut down on the wearing of the new hose. No, don't cut the old hose, throw it in the back as a spare...

I was asking if the Rotella needed the additive or not. It does not. Well, it does sort of. After 300,000 miles there is a booster that you can add to the coolant to make it go for ANOTHER 300,000 miles. I don't plan on that. I'll just flush it out. That will be MANY years down the road. Truck only has 66,000 miles now and it's a six year old truck.

I looked at that, but I figured with it secured to the bracket it should be fine.
I thought I'd keep an eye on it for wear and do something else if needed. Do you think I'm wrong?
Thanks Kwik, I'll be putting Rotella in, got the factory gold now but sure won't hurt to flush and change. And this time I'll remember to put a billet housing on...
Fords4me, personally I'd pad it. These diesels shake a lot and where rubber meets rough metal..... Well, you get the idea...
