I found a 1979 bronco front axle d44 for $500 Canadian. Its at the junkyard still attatched to the bronco. He said i could have all the parts i need for the sas for this price. But i have to pull it off the bronco myself. Is it going to be a big job pulling this off without air tools?
Is this a decent price? I might be able to talk him to $450. Finding a d60 seems to be impossible. Anything is better than the ttb, i only plany on staying with 35-36" tires.
What should i grab besides the axle? Radius arms? spring towers, shock mounts, etc. trac bar.
I paid $250 (US) for a truck with a blown motor, a D44 high pinion, 9" rear, C6, and NP205. I would say keep looking, or tell him, like, $300 or nothin'.
i think i would look around. you need to tell him $100 if you have to pull it yourself for just the axle and then another $50 for all the other parts you need. now if the axle had been pulled already and worked on with new parts and stuff then $500 might be more reasonable! keep looking, i promise that one will be there, lol
grab everything you can springs, radius arms, shocks, steering, track bar, driveshaft, etc. the more you have the easier the swap will be.
its not hard to do without air tools, just takes a lil longer. be sure to bring a couple of breaker bars though, those older trucks can have some serious locked up bolts! if possible take in a portable oxy-ace torch (and know how to freraking use it too). they make things even faster than wrenches! this way you can get all the frame mounts too!
I think yall are missing the fact that its $500CAD. Thats roughly, what, $300 or so USD, which I think is a pretty good deal for all those parts. Around here D44's are selling for about $300 a pop, just to give you an idea.
Seems on the high side to me. I have seen complete parts trucks sell for $500. Canadian. Mind you I did get my '78 with a blown timing chain, with front and rear D60's for $450 Canadian

i can go to my neighborhood j-yard and pull a D44 front with everythin i mentioned plus some for $150. but if you think its a good deal.... by ALL means go get it. dont let us hold you back if you have the cash. we are just lending you our opinions that you asked for!
Yeah tell him 400 for the entire truck. (btw 500cdn is roughly 410-420 american right now), My dad picked up 2 77 1/2 ton for 500 bucks, one ran but overheated, and the other was a project with a rebuilt TC and tranny (this went into my 80), came with the blown motor as well as two burly homemade bumpers. But yeah thats way too much, at least half would be a decent deal.
I picked up a D44, 9", C6, np205, radius arms, coils, driveshafts everything out of a 79 bronco off of evilbay for $150 earlier this summer (that includes the cost of fuel to drive down, and pick it up) look around I think that anything over $100us for a D44 is too much if it's just a stock unit.
The real question is can you get it cheaper anywhere else? Here in GA, it would be reasonable ($300 US) because 4x4 are not popular. Though you can buy a complete axle disc to disc for $130 (www.pullapart.com) IF IF you can find one.
But, in NH, MA where they were popular (4x4s) they still charge $300. Why? Because they can!
So, if this is the only 4x4 axle available complete, then go grab everything. Everything, wheels, arms, shocks, brackets, etc. Having a complete axle is better then an incomplete one or none at all.
