Hey im new here but not sure where to post this but here it goes
I have a 1979 ford f-250 400ci 3speed automatic and it takes along time to accelerate, the fuel pump makes alot of noise, it sounds like its trying to pump rocks, but going uphill it acts fine but when you level out it acts up again if anyone can help me here? thanks
Is your motor getting up the rpms and not shifting or is the motor not getting up the rpms? If it's getting the rpms you may want to check the vacuum modulator at the tranny. May be a clogged fuel filter causing the fuel pump issues.
that the fuel pumps making all the noise? It almost sounds like if your going uphill and its fine, that you may have a problem in the tank at the sock, or sucking air in the gas line.
i would do a complete tune up,cap ,rotor, plug wires, air filter, plugs, also check your float setting on your carb.change the fuel filter, blow out the fuel lines, set the timing, pressure test the fuel pump, then if you still lack power, check engine compression, you may just have a tired old engine.you didnt say if you just suddenly lost power,or if this is a consistant complaint since day one with the truck.if you have better performancegoing up hill, i would focus on the carb,it may need a rebuild.hope this helps you. OH,by the way WELCOME TO FTE!!!-billy
No vacuum leaks? Air cleaner OK? Vacuum advance diaphragm not ruptured? No clogged cat converter or other exhaust restriction? Vacuum, airflow and timing can drastically affect acceleration.
