cold start problem.....at a loss...

so ive had a cold start problem with my 97 7.3 ......after doing some research, i found that it was either the relay or the glow plugs themselves.......so i replaced the relay and all 8 glowplugs......the problem still persists......looking for more info, i found that it is possible that this was caused by weak batteries, so i hooked the truck up to my 55amp battery jump starter (plug in type, not battery charged type) and tried.....still no go.....

I dont know where to turn now....anyone have any ideas???

Any blown fuses? Like maxi-fuse #22 under the hood.

How cold is it where your at?? Plug your truck in and see if it makes any difference. If it starts after being plugged in for a few hours it most likley still a glow plug problem.

its only about 52 degrees here.....should still start without a problem( i would think)

Unfortunatly, this truck was ordered without a block heater......i would rather not get a block heater to "bandaid" the problem.....

fuse 22 under the hood is good....fuse #12 label "diode" (20a) is gone, i will replace that on tommorow....will that one have any effect? does anyone have a listing of what each of those go to????....thanks for the idea....

i'm still taking anymore ideas you guys have !!

You're sure the new relay is working?

Did you replace the under valve cover (UVC) harnesses when you replaced the glow plugs? Do the pins in the connectors for these harnesses look OK?

Boy, 50deg. is a summer morning to me! I have started my truck at -10deg. after cycling the glow plugs a couple times. I only do that when i dont have power for the block heater and no generator.
It doesnt sound like your glow plugs are working at all. Not even a little. DOes the gauge show a discharge for a minute or so after turning the key on?

Yes, or the wiring, or it's not commanded on for some reason. Your truck should start like it's fully warmed up on 50 degree morning with a functioning glow plug system. If all eight glow plugs are getting hot it will start within two or three seconds of cranking all the way down to -20.

touch both terminals on the gpr with a screwdriver for about 10 seconds and then try to start it. if she rips then you need a new gpr.

look at the pins on the harness to valve cover connection. its the outside pin on every plug and gasket.

like this:

[gp] [inj] [inj] [inj] [gp] if that makes sense
