Yep. They'll fit on the block, but wont line up to the y-pipe.

They fit, but they flow for a 351 not a 302. I realize its not much difference but they were made for an engine with a larger displacement. Assuming they are good quality headers, they may scavenge exhaust a bit BETTER than needs be effectively reducing back pressure which trucks need at the low end for torque developement. Again, its not much of a difference and may not become an issue but its a possibility.

Exhaust ports are slightly different if I recall. Not sure exactly how... they may be taller(greater height to the port itself).

How about advice on header selection - brand, style, gauge? it is for a 89' w/ 351W, it is currently stock but I want an exhaust that has room for growth.

I'll always send you the direction of Bassani exhaust. They make really high quality shortie headers that will bolt in as a direct replacement for OEM manifolds. No modifications needed to the rest of the exhaust if you don't want to buy a complete system right away. Later, you can swap in their Y-pipe and then their cat-back if you want. The headers are available chromed or ceramic coated (worth the extra money if you ask me) and everything else is stainless. The systems are stock emissions equipment compatible and utilize the OEM hangers and brackets all the way back. Simply put, their products are truly bolt-on equipement that requires no modification or fabrication. This stuff isn't inexpensive but the quality is second to none. My headers have been on two different trucks and they have never dealt me any problems. The fit is perfect and they seal beautifully. I only retorque header bolts every other oil change and they don't usually need it then.
