new idle problem

I have a fresh 390 in my 72. I have never had any problems until lately. When I start it up cold, it runs great until it warms slightly, then the idle drops way down and will eventually stall. I checked to see if the choke is opening up and it is. I have the flamethrower ignition on it. After it gets fully warmed up, it runs great. I have the edelbrock performer on it. Any ideas? Vacuum leak? Carb problem? I also just put in a new alternator today as the lights would flicker at idle, but it's always done that. I haven't even fired it since I got the alternator on. Could low or pulsing voltage to ignition do it? I did run the hot wire on the ignition to my ignition switch after reading an article about getting a full 12 volts off the coil.. I did that some time ago. I did replace my valve cover breather a while ago to a sealed cap. I am going back to the breather if I can find one to fit my twist on type aluminum valve covers. Could this change have done anything? any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Check your timing, check your vacum lines for leaks, Check carb. If its an automatic tranny idle it up to at least 800rpm probably 900
