I am converting my 76 f150 ranger to manual locking front hubs since they were always engaged before.
ANything I need to know, I have the hubs all back together, the only thing I need to do still is finish the front driveshafts u-joint.
I figured w/ it as it sits now it should move, the front shaft is disconnected at the diffferential. but it will not move, is there anything I have to do to the T-case?
im pretty sure your t case will have a planitary gear type set up in it,if your truck was full time 4wd.there are kits to change your truck from full time to part time 4wd.changing out the hubs is only part of the task.if you lock your new hubs in ,then the truck should move.but with the t case still as a full time unit,it will not transfer the power to only the rear axle.it will act like an open diff, and feed the power to the axle with the least resistance(the front diff).hope this helps.-billy
most reputable auto parts shops should be able to help you,or some of the sponsors on FTE site could either supply them,or at least point you in the right direction. this conversion is fairly common, and straight forward to do,so you should be able to get what you need fairly easily.hope this helps you -billy
I've got a 76' with full-time t-case and I put warn hubs in the front. I have to drive it with the t-case in the '4hi lock' or 4low lock' position when the hubs are unlocked. That way it distributes the power to both front and back instead of unlocked front only. It is still turning the front driveshaft, but its not trying to turn the 2 40" tires in the front, so performance/driveability is slightly better.
